“I want to explore badminton together with my child!”
Family Badminton is a fun way for a child and an adult to experience badminton together — with a parent, grandparent, godparent, aunt, uncle, or any other adult! The guided sessions combine playful exercises and basic skill development. The child and adult get a shared hobby that builds confidence and enthusiasm for the sport. No previous badminton experience is needed — not for the child or the adult.

“I want to try badminton for the first time in a fun and playful way!”
Minisulkis is the first step into the world of badminton for young players. Through games, movement challenges, and age‑appropriate exercises, children develop coordination, balance, and basic motor skills. With shorter rackets, they get an easy first feel for hitting, rallying, and moving on a smaller court — in a safe, encouraging, and cheerful environment. There is always one coach per four children in Minisulkis.

We have divided the junior groups by age: 8–11, 11–14, and 14–17 years. This division is indicative, so players may also register for groups that are slightly older or younger than their own age.
“I want to start badminton for the first time or continue the hobby I enjoyed last season!”
The beginner groups are open to everyone who is picking up a racket for the first time or wants to strengthen their basic badminton skills. Coaching is tailored to each age group, but the goal is the same: to build a strong foundation in badminton in a friendly and encouraging environment. No previous experience is needed — enthusiasm and curiosity are enough.
“I have played and trained before, I know the basics of badminton, and I want to keep improving!”
This level is suitable for players who already master the basic skills and want to become more confident players. Training focuses on improving strokes, movement, and game understanding through varied exercises and play — in a relaxed and motivating atmosphere. A great next step for anyone who has discovered a passion for badminton.
“I want more challenge — I want to train and improve so I can beat my training partners, succeed in club events, or compete in real tournaments!”
The advanced groups are for players who already have solid fundamentals and want to take their game to the next level. Training is more versatile and demanding, developing strokes, movement, tactical understanding, and competition readiness — still in a positive and inspiring environment. Players in this group are encouraged to participate in the club’s ranking events and local competitions.
The adult skill levels follow the same structure as the junior groups: Beginners – Intermediate – Advanced. The familiar Beginner+, Medium Intensity, and High Intensity groups are included within these levels. In addition, we have created a new group for 18–21‑year‑old young adults who are at the Intermediate or Advanced level. This group trains on Fridays.
“I want to start playing badminton for the first time!”
The beginner groups are open to anyone picking up a racket for the first time or wanting to strengthen their basic badminton skills. The goal is to build a strong foundation in a friendly and encouraging environment. No previous experience is needed — enthusiasm and curiosity are enough.
For new adult players, we offer six‑week short courses as well as a full‑season beginner course. After completing the beginner course, players can refine their skills in Beginners+.
“I have played for one or two seasons and want to keep improving!”
Intermediate groups are for adults who already know the basics and want to become more confident players. Training focuses on improving strokes, movement, and game understanding through varied exercises and gameplay.
This level is a great step for players who have already discovered a passion for badminton and want to learn to play more effectively.
Intermediate courses are divided into Skill and High Intensity groups:
“I want more challenge — I’m ready to train harder and test myself in competitions!”
Advanced groups are for players who already have solid fundamentals and want to take their game to the next level. Training is more versatile and demanding, developing strokes, movement, tactical understanding, and match play.
Players learn to apply their skills in different game situations, make better decisions at higher speed, and recognize their strengths as players. Training is more goal‑oriented, but the atmosphere remains relaxed, encouraging, and motivating.
Players in this group are encouraged to participate in the club’s ranking events and local competitions. Advanced players can join the familiar Medium Intensity and High Intensity groups:
Players in recreational groups can develop, play, and receive an appropriate level of challenge according to their skill level. Participation in lower-level, non-licensed tournaments is also recommended for recreational groups.
In competitive groups, the focus of training shifts more clearly toward preparing for competitions, competing, and long-term, more goal-oriented development. Competitive groups are intended for players for whom these aspects are important motivators in their badminton playing. Competitive players are required to participate in federation-sanctioned licensed tournaments at least six times during the season.
Within competitive activities, there are different training structures depending on the player’s age, stage of development, motivation, and goals.
Competitive groups by age category: U11, U13, U15, and U17–19 competitive groups form the foundation of Tapion Sulka’s competitive program. The goals for players in competitive groups are long-term development, success in competitions, and discovering their own potential. Competitive groups offer training 2–6 times per week (4 evening sessions and 2 morning sessions). In addition to practices, competitive activities include programmed physical training, mental coaching integrated into weekly practices, the option to purchase physical training programs for independent training, and active coaching support from the club during competitions.
Academy activities: Academy activities are an additional program alongside competitive training for players whose goal is to reach the top level in Finland and compete internationally. Academy players train 5–7 times per week and compete in at least 10 tournaments per season. In addition, players receive six individual meetings per season, where the overall training program is monitored and planned, and the content of independent training sessions is developed. An essential tool for managing the overall program is maintaining the Qridi training diary, which is mandatory for academy players. Academy players are expected to have intrinsic motivation to train and compete actively, evaluate their own development, and organize their life outside of training to support their growth as athletes.
How to join a competitive group: A prerequisite for joining a competitive group is previous competition experience, specifically participation in at least three competition events outside the club during the previous season. Here you can find more information about competing (purchasing a license, registering in the competition system, and signing up for tournaments).
Information about the competitive groups is available directly from our Chief of Coaching or Head of junior development.
