Tapion Sulka aims to create a training environment for all badminton enthusiasts where everyone can develop and grow both as individuals and as athletes. The club’s values—human-centered coaching, community spirit, and courage—guide our daily activities and form the foundation of our ethical code of conduct. We follow the City of Espoo’s safer space principles, which can be found at the end of this page.
How We Operate
- We are committed, through our bylaws, to upholding the ethical principles of sport and the responsibility program of the sports community.
- We act in accordance with the Tähtiseura recognition granted to us by the Finnish Olympic Committee and the Badminton Association of Finland.
- All coaches are invited to complete the online courses Young Mind in Sport and Responsible Coach.

Internal Processes of Tapion Sulka
We have created our own rules and detailed guidelines for coaches to follow in crisis and concern situations. The roles of different actors in our club are:
- Coach: Identifies and reports, discusses, documents.
- Head of Coaching and Junior Manager (contact persons): Provides training, receives reports, monitors situations, consults the Executive Director and Chair when necessary.
- Executive Director: Participates in handling serious cases, reports to authorities when required, serves as the harassment contact person.
- Chairperson: Participates in handling serious cases, reports to authorities when required.
- Guardians: Are informed of agreed situations, participate in cooperation.
Harassment Contact Person
Tapion Sulka’s harassment contact person is Executive Director Tarja Arkio. The role of the contact person is to provide conversational support and guidance in resolving situations. All contacts are handled confidentially. If you or someone close to you has experienced harassment, bullying, discrimination, violence, or other inappropriate behavior during club activities and would like to talk about it, you can send an email to tarja@tapionsulka.fi.
Safer Space Principles

- We intervene promptly in inappropriate behavior. If we see inappropriate behavior, we address it. We ensure that rules are followed.
- We create a pleasant environment. We make sure facilities are clean after use.
- We ensure that our facilities and services are as accessible and inclusive as possible for all participants.
